IRU joins the Women in Transport EU Platform for Change which aims to strengthen female employment – so offering a tangible solution to driver shortages – and to ensure equal opportunities for men and women in the transport sector.
Despite the industry’s driver shortage crisis, women comprise only 22% of those employed by the transport industry.
Together with other transport stakeholders, IRU has signed a joint declaration underlining its commitment to address the lack of gender balance in the sector, to encourage more women into professional driving, and to make the job more attractive to all.
The Women in Transport EU Platform for Change was developed by the European Economic and Social Committee in cooperation with the European Commission. The platform will showcase actions and good practices undertaken by its members in favour of gender equality.
