Heavy Load – 10 Tons of Steel Cable Reel Transported by Air from Bergamo to Shanghai (PHOTO)
Successfully handling heavy cargo transport always draws attention. Recently, the company FERCAM shared news of one such project—a shipment of a 10,000 kg steel cable reel transported by air from the Italian province of Bergamo all the way to Shanghai.
As usual, precision and care were required, but this wasn’t just a regular transport: it called for a custom solution.
For instance, a special crane had to be rented to load the cargo onto the aircraft, ensuring every step of the journey was handled with the utmost attention to detail.
– We used a specific crane at MXP Milan Silvio Berlusconi Airport, which allowed the goods to be lifted to the level of the loading platform. This was necessary, considering the gross weight of the cargo – said FERCAM.
The steel cable reel was transported by an ASIANA B747F cargo plane. The route included the legs Milan-Seoul and Seoul-Shanghai (MXP-Seoul on August 26, ICN [Seoul]–Shanghai PVG on August 27).
The main challenge in air transport of such heavy loads is ensuring that it remains securely positioned and fastened throughout the entire journey, including the loading process and all stages of transport up to delivery, as well as local operations at the destination.
– Our FERCAM Air & Ocean team is always ready to go the extra mile and push boundaries to ensure a seamless logistics operation – FERCAM stated.
