FERCAM: 50 new Actros trucks, powered by Eni’s HVO

FERCAM, leading company in transport and logistics, has always been attentive to all technological innovations aimed at reducing emissions effectively. The delivery of 50 new Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks, coupled with the agreement reached with Eni to ensure the supply of biofuel for exclusive HVO fueling of the new vehicles, contributes to achieving one of FERCAM’s main strategic objectives. This outlines a new piece of the “Emission Free Project,” which groups together all the company’s initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact of logistics services.

In December 2021, the South Tyrolean transport and logistics company FERCAM had started its experimentation with HVO through the installation of a distribution pump for this biofuel at its headquarters in Bolzano, which was not yet available on the market at traditional refueling stations.

The new Mercedes-Benz Actros Euro 6 trucks, equipped with all the latest technological devices for safe and environmentally friendly driving, have been specifically equipped with a tank capable of covering up to 3000 km to ensure an easy return to the company refuelling station, particularly for European routes without public refuelling pumps.

– In the current transition phase towards decarbonizing the sector, alternative fuels play an important role in achieving increasingly sustainable transportation. Achieving carbon neutrality in heavy transport by 2040 is a very ambitious goal. Our journey towards zero emissions in heavy transport will necessarily require the adoption of a mix of technologies and non-fossil fuels of organic origins, such as BioLNG and HVO. And for distribution vehicles with reduced daily mileage, electric is becoming a viable technology, despite many still unsolved issues . says Hannes Baumgartner, CEO of FERCAM.

After a year and a half of use on some of FERCAM’s fleet, in which full compatibility with HVO-powered engines and equal performance was verified, the company is ready to convert a more substantial part of its fleet to exclusive HVO fueling.

Eni’s HVOlution is a biofuel produced 100% from renewable raw materials (in accordance with Directive (EU) 2018/2001 “REDII”). The Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) is produced from biogenic waste raw materials (exhausted food oils, animal fats, processing waste from vegetable raw materials), not in competition with food or feed crops, and without palm oil. The use of this biofuel contributes to a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions in the transport sector.
