Czech government extends Slovak border checks by 20 days

The Czech government extended its checks on the border with European Union neighbour Slovakia until 28. October 2022, seeking to control a spike in the flow of illegal migrants.

– The measures introduced by the government due to a sharp increase in illegal migration and increased activity of organized smuggler groups will be extended for another 20 days. As of 29th September 2022, when controls on the borders with Slovakia were reintroduced, until 3. October 2022, the Czech Police checked a total of 92,706 people. 1142 persons were detected during illegal migration and 422 people were not allowed to enter.

During inspections, the police noticed also cases of dangerous behavior of transporters who endangered their surroundings with risky driving. In some cases, the police had to use law enforcement to stop them. A total of 33 traffickers were detained as part of the measure.
