“Next Stop: Intermodal” – The Second Cargo Conference Belgrade Takes Place on October 30, 2025

The importance of intermodal and combined transport for the entire logistics system cannot be disregarded. Moreover, analysts from the International Union for Road-Rail Combined Transport (UIRR) are confident that in the coming years, intermodal transport will continue to be a growth sector, supporting shifts in industrial trends like smaller average shipment sizes and diverse types of goods requiring transportation.

According to the UIRR report, the total growth of combined transport in Europe between 2010 and 2023 reached 59%, with the intermodal fleet expanding by 40% during that period. In 2023 alone, 350 regular weekly combined transport services were recorded.

The European Commission recently proposed a revision of the Combined Transport Directive (CTD). The European Union aims to strengthen cooperation between railways, inland waterways, and maritime transport to enhance the resilience of the transport system.

The European Commission is now striving to improve legislative frameworks to enable better, more sustainable, and energy-efficient freight transport across the EU by supporting and developing combined transport.

Cargo Conference Belgrade 2025

Driven by key and current topics in freight transport, this year’s Cargo Conference Belgrade is themed “Next Stop: Intermodal.” Organized by the PlutonLogistics portal, Cargo Conference Belgrade 2025 will focus on intermodal transport. The conference “Next Stop: Intermodal” is set to take place in Belgrade on October 30.

– The changes that are evident both globally and locally have led us to once again seek efficient solutions for freight transport and to raise new questions and topics for discussion. Serbia’s shift in foreign trade policies and increasing exchange with distant destinations have expanded the volume of containerized cargo transport in our country, making ports, railways, and intermodal terminals increasingly important. Businesses must adapt their established cargo transport systems and learn more about new solutions – Marija Kambić, editor of the PlutonLogistics portal, explained.
