Official opening new METRO logistics and distribution center in VGP Park Belgrade, Dobanovci

VGP, a European provider of high quality logistics and semi-industrial real estate announces that METRO Cash & Carry Serbia opened a new distribution logistics center in VGP Park Belgrade in Dobanovci.

METRO leases a facility of 15,000 m², featuring four temperature zones and built entirely according to the requirements and international standards of this leading food wholesaler, with headquarters in Germany.

In the new center, the latest technology for cooling systems was applied, without the use of freon, thus significantly reducing the impact on the environment.

The official opening of the distribution and logistics center was attended by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Anke Konrad, as well as numerous leading domestic manufacturers and company partners.

On the occasion of the opening of the center, Nadir Kađi, CEO of METRO Serbia stated:

– As the first genuine wholesaler that has been operating in Serbia for almost 20 years, METRO wants to be an even stronger support for restaurateurs and independent traders. Through the offer of top-quality and customized solutions, services and a rich assortment of quality domestic and international products, we are committed to the success of our customers and we see the opening of our new logistics and distribution center as a big step on the path of joint growth and development in the years to come.

The new center is located within the modern VGP Park Belgrade and enables the reception and storage of the company’s entire assortment, including fresh and ultra-fresh foods. More than 110 employees work in the new building. The building is developed according to the latest sustainability standards, aiming for the BREEAM Excellent certification.

Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Serbia, H.E. Anke Konrad, on this occasion, stated:

– Metro’s decision to open a new logistics facility here in Dobanovci is a tangible example of the strong and dynamic economic relations between Serbia and Germany. As Serbia’s largest trading partner and one of the biggest foreign investors, we want to see Serbia’s economy succeed. This means going beyond the big cities and investing in rural development and a circular economy, which are two priority areas of our economic cooperation. That is why METRO’s commitment here, e.g. with the partnership support program, is an important testament to Serbia’s potential for investment and sustainable economic growth.

In Serbia, METRO employs 1,100 people in 9 sales distribution centers in Belgrade, Niš, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Požarevac, Subotica and Šabac. The wholesaler is also recognizable for its unique “Jutro” franchise trading program, within which it provides support to independent traders for their long-term and successful business. So far, 60 “Jutro” stores have been opened in Serbia, and an example of a “Jutro” store was shown at the ceremonial opening of the distribution and logistics center in Dobanovci.

In 2025, METRO marks 20 years of business in Serbia, with the desire to continue supporting the business victories of its customers, restaurateurs and traders.
