Autumn public holidays bring truck bans to 11 EU Countries
Several EU countries celebrate their national holidays in October and November, resulting in a number of traffic restrictions for heavy goods vehicles. The upcoming truck bans apply on the following dates:
7th October (Wednesday)
Croatia – (the eve of public holiday) from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. The truck bans in Croatia pertain to heavy goods vehicles and vehicles with GVW over 7.5 tonnes, as well as trucks and vehicles with trailers exceeding 14m in length.
8th October (Thursday)
Croatia – (Independence Day) from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.
22nd October (Thursday)
Hungary – (the eve of public holiday) from 10 p.m. to midnight. The truck ban in Hungary applies to heavy goods vehicles with GVW over 7.5 tonnes. It includes the entire network of roads and motorways.
23rd October (Friday)
Hungary – (Republic Day) from midnight to 10 p.m.
26th October (Monday)
Austria – (Austria National Day) from midnight to 10 p.m. Traffic bans apply to tractors with trailers with GVW of the tractor or trailer over 3.5 tonnes, heavy goods vehicles, and articulated vehicles with GVW exceeding 7.5 tonnes.
28th October (Wednesday)
Czech Republic – (Czech Independence Day) from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
30th October (Friday)
Croatia – (Friday preceding All Saints’ Day on Sunday) from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.
31st October (Saturday)
Slovenia – (Reformation Day) from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Traffic bans in Slovenia apply to heavy goods vehicles with GVW over 7.5 tonnes.
Germany – (Reformation Day) from midnight to 10 p.m. Traffic bans pertain to heavy goods vehicles with GVW exceeding 7.5 tonnes as well as heavy goods vehicles with trailers (irrespective of GVW).
Please be aware that Reformation Day is only celebrated in Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
1st November (Sunday, All Saints’ Day)
Austria – from midnight to 10 p.m.
Croatia – from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.
France – from midnight to 10 p.m. The traffic ban in France applies to heavy goods vehicles with GVW over 7.5 tonnes.
Luxembourg – from midnight to 9.45 p.m. The restrictions pertain to vehicles with GVW over 7.5 tonnes with or without a trailer.
Germany – from midnight to 10 p.m. The holiday is only celebrated in the following federal states: Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.
On the two public holidays celebrated only in part of Germany, i.e. on Reformation Day and on All Saints’ Day, North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony have come to an agreement to limit traffic bans. As agreed by the authorities of the regions, the ban on heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes will be limited on these days to hours from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. (on the holiday day in the respective federal state).
In addition, both federal states allow trucks to travel on valid transit routes A1, A2, A30, A31 and A33 between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. The provision also applies, if Reformation Day or All Saints’ Day falls on Sunday.
Poland – from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The restrictions apply to vehicles with GVW over 12 tonnes.
Slovakia – from midnight to 10 p.m. it will not be possible to drive heavy goods vehicles with GVW over 7.5 tonnes and heavy goods vehicles with GVW over 3.5 tonnes with a trailer or semi-trailer.
Slovenia – from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Hungary – from midnight to 10 p.m.
Italy – from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. it will not be possible to drive trucks and combinations of vehicles with GVW exceeding 7.5 tonnes.
