Russia to set up a locomotive plant in Serbia
Russian Railways is considering a proposal to create a joint company to manufacture gas locomotives in Serbia, ‘which would be of great importance for our economy’, Serbian Minister of Transport Zorana Mihajlovic announced. The statement was made during a meeting with of RZD’s Deputy Director General, Sergey Pavlov, when the current and future railway infrastructure projects were discussed.
It is expected that in April a contract for the reconstruction of the Bar railway from Valjevo to Vrbnica will be signed and construction works on the dispatch center will be launched.
Currently, RZD is performing the project on the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad rail section, which will allow trains to run at speeds of 200 km/h.
– In addition to current projects, we also discussed new activities, first of all Bar railway and the unique dispatch center. We have 1,500 workers at construction sites in Serbia – Pavlov said.
In October, the Ministry and Russian Railways signed two contracts for the modernisation of Belgrade – Vrbnica – Bar line, providing transport connection to Montenegro, and the reconstruction of the signalling and communication system, including the construction of a control center for the rail traffic management in Belgrade.
