Milsped and Aero Africa Conquer Major Hurdles for Urgent Mining Equipment Delivery
Milsped orchestrated a complex charter flight on the Johannesburg to Sarajevo route, utilizing a Boeing 747 cargo plane to transport urgent mining equipment. The shipment, which consisted of 20 packages weighing a total of 25 tons, faced significant production delays and required immediate transfer from South Africa to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
A day prior to the scheduled shipment, Milsped encountered an unforeseen complication: the specific nature of the cargo necessitated that the plane could only be unloaded in Belgrade.
This sudden change required the logistics team to arrange comprehensive support for the reception of the plane and cargo in less than 24 hours.
In South Africa, Aero Africa’s team collected the goods from the factory and delivered them to Johannesburg Airport. Upon arrival, they discovered that the shipment was unsuitable for loading due to pipes and parts with sharp edges that posed a risk to the plane’s fuselage during transport. To resolve this issue, Milsped’s leader, Srdjan Radojevic, and Aero Africa’s team leader, Jay Cameron, devised a solution to employ two teams of 20 carpenters each to construct appropriate crates to protect the cargo. After ten hours of intensive work, the goods were safely prepared for transport.
The additional packing and subsequent changes in the weight and number of packages caused delays in the export customs clearance process. The teams worked under tight deadlines and managed to complete the customs clearance just an hour before the plane’s departure.
Despite these challenges, the Boeing 747 successfully took off from Johannesburg. The flight proceeded smoothly, with the cargo landing in Belgrade and subsequently being delivered to the client without any further issues.
The collaborative efforts of Milsped and Aero Africa ensured the timely and safe delivery of the mining equipment, showcasing their expertise and commitment to overcoming logistical hurdles.
